Summary

The Aktion Zukunft Jugend is a subsidiary program of the Austrian Public Employment Service (AMS) and the Austrian Youth Guarantee. It is focused on young people’s economic development, specifically (re-)training and employment matching. The program provides a safety net and helps guide young people toward socially and economically important professions.

Public-private partnerships are vital in advancing the employable skills of young people.

Rationale

Avoid long-term unemployment for young people and provide career opportunities within six months.

Number of participants

81,000 trainings and 96,000 entering employment in 2013 (1).

Criteria for participation

19 to 24 years old.

Financing

EUR 142 million in 2013 (2). EUR 500 million in 2009 (3).

Implementation

Training and counseling guaranteed for young people until age 18. Employment, apprenticeship, or training guaranteed within three months of registering for young people 19 – 24. Some employment will be subsidized through the program (4).

Offers are tailor-made to the participant.

Notable features

There are projects and training specifically designed for young people who have difficulty with the program as it is usually administered (5).
